Our education

Taalschool de Kameleon

Taalschool de Kameleon is for children with the age of 4 to 12 who just came abroad or for children that not speak enough Dutch to be able to attend classes at a primary school in the neighbourhood. The school is for all children who live in the municipality of Nissewaard and those who need intensive language education. Foreign languaged from the municipality of Hellevoetsluis, municipality of Voorne Putten and municipality of Brielle who are older than 8 years, but who are not literate and all foreign languaged students in the ages of groups 7 and 8 also come to the Kameleon. The aim is to optimally stimulate the development of the students so that the capacities of each child are used. In addition to the Dutch language, the children receive arithmetic, acquaintance with Dutch society, social-emotional education and sports. A safe and predictable learning environment is important for the development of students. Taalschool de Kameleon also finds contact with parents very important.

Continuing School

If the child understands and speaks enough Dutch and can follow the group level, it will go to a primary school in the neighbourhood. This is usually within 2 years. When the child is 12 years old, it will go to secondary school after Taalschool de Kameleon if the level of the Dutch language is sufficient. If that is not yet the case, the student goes to the International Transition Class in Spijkenisse. In order to learn the Dutch language well, the child also receives intensive language training there. When a student has been at Taalschool de Kameleon for a year, the teacher consults with parents about which school the student can go to. Taalschool de Kameleon contacts the new school to make arrangements. After about two years, the pupil will go to the new school. Taalschool de Kameleon has language expert who guides this transition and gives advice to the new school about learning the Dutch language.
